The Nikon MB-D17 is a Multi-Power Battery Pack (vertical grip) designed specifically for the Nikon D500 DSLR. It attaches to the base of the camera to extend battery life significantly, increasing the total number of shots per charge, and can be powered by a single EN-EL15 or EN-EL18a lithium-ion battery, eight AA-size batteries (alkaline, lithium, or Ni-MH), or even an EH-5b AC adapter via the EP-5B power connector making it highly versatile for extended and remote shooting sessions.

Beyond power, the MB-D17 substantially improves handling ergonomics by providing a full set of portrait-orientation controls, including a dedicated shutter release button with on/off switch, an AF-On button, front and rear command dials, a multi-selector stick, and an Fn button. These controls allow photographers to shoot vertical compositions with their right hand in a natural, comfortable position, while the grip’s added mass helps counterbalance larger lenses and reduces camera shake for sharper results.
