Introducing the Canon RF 85mm f/2 Macro IS STM Lens

Overview

The Canon RF 85mm f/2 Macro IS STM lens is a versatile and high-performance lens that excels in a variety of photographic situations. Combining a short telephoto field of view with a sleek design and impressive close-focusing capabilities, this lens is ideal for capturing everything from stunning portraits to intricate macro photography. Whether youre a professional photographer or an enthusiast, this lens is designed to meet your creative needs and deliver exceptional image quality.

Key Features

• Short-Telephoto Lens: The 85mm focal length is perfect for portraiture, providing a flattering perspective that brings out the best in your subjects. It offers a natural and pleasing look, making it an essential lens for portrait photographers.
• Macro Capability: The lenss close-focus design allows you to work with subjects as close as 1.15 feet (35 cm) away, offering a 1:2 maximum magnification. This makes it ideal for capturing detailed macro shots, whether you’re photographing flowers, insects, or intricate textures.
• Quiet Autofocus: The STM (Stepping Motor) technology ensures impressively quiet and smooth autofocus performance. This is particularly useful for video recording, where silent focusing is crucial, as well as for capturing candid moments without disturbing your subjects. Full-time manual focus override is also available for those who prefer precise control.
• Image Stabilization: Optical Image Stabilization and Hybrid IS work together to suppress up to five stops of camera shake. This means you can achieve cleaner and steadier shots, even in low light conditions or when using slower shutter speeds. Hybrid IS specifically compensates for angular and shift-type camera movements, which is especially beneficial for close-up shooting and macro photography.
• High-Quality Optics: The lens features a UD (Ultra-Low Dispersion) element in its optical design to minimize chromatic aberrations and ensure outstanding clarity and colour accuracy. This results in sharp, vibrant images with minimal distortion.
• Control Ring: A customizable Control Ring allows you to adjust key exposure settings such as ISO, aperture, and exposure compensation directly from the lens. This enhances your shooting efficiency and allows for quick adjustments without taking your eye off the subject.
• Aesthetic Bokeh: The rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality, making your subjects stand out beautifully against a smooth, blurred background. This is particularly desirable in portrait photography, where a soft background can enhance the subject’s prominence.

Detailed Features

• Portrait-Length Prime Lens: Specifically designed for use with full-frame Canon RF-mount mirrorless digital cameras, this lens offers a natural perspective that is perfect for portrait photography. Its short telephoto focal length provides a comfortable working distance and flattering compression.
• Modest-but-Bright Aperture: The f/2 maximum aperture strikes a perfect balance between a compact form factor and excellent performance in low-light conditions. It also allows for creative depth of field control, enabling you to isolate your subject against beautifully blurred backgrounds.
• Enhanced Macro Performance: The macro design is perfect for close-up subjects, providing detailed and sharp images with a 1:2 maximum magnification ratio. This makes it an excellent choice for capturing fine details and textures in small subjects.
• Advanced Image Stabilization: The Optical Image Stabilizer minimizes the appearance of camera shake by up to five stops, allowing you to shoot handheld in challenging lighting conditions. The Hybrid IS setting further compensates for angular and shift-type movements, which is particularly useful when shooting macros, ensuring sharp and detailed images even at close distances.
• Smooth and Accurate Autofocus: The STM stepping motor is optimized for both video and still shooting, delivering fast, quiet, and precise autofocus. This makes it an excellent choice for capturing high-quality video footage as well as still images.
• Configurable Control Ring: This versatile feature allows for seamless adjustments to exposure settings without taking your eye off the subject. The control ring can be customized to adjust various settings, such as aperture, ISO, and exposure compensation, providing a more intuitive and efficient shooting experience.
• Beautiful Bokeh: The nine-blade diaphragm ensures a smooth and attractive out-of-focus quality, enhancing the overall aesthetic of your images. This is particularly valuable in portrait photography, where a pleasing bokeh can significantly enhance the visual impact of your photos.

With the Canon RF 85mm f/2 Macro IS STM lens, you have the perfect tool to elevate your photography, whether youre capturing detailed close-up images or creating beautifully blurred backgrounds in your portraits. Its combination of advanced features and high-quality optics makes it a must-have lens for any serious photographer.
